Maple Leaf Cookies, a thanks, shares, and Winter Project (Issue 19)
a pause from writing prompts . . .
a Thanks for your patience
First, thanks for your patience with me posting daily. It is hard to write these prompts daily and it is probably hard for you to receive them daily. We all have social stream information overload. I see the stats and lots of people are reading the posts and I am thankful for you. If you would consider joining Substacks, I would love to read your comments and see your likes as well. I am going to do a tutorial about how to use the place yet (I hope).
December
I am wondering what I will do for December and Advent. Part of me wants to do a daily something and part of me does not. I am pondering. I could do a daily personal study and then share parts of it once a week. Or I could reshare or repost previous writings. I have my Chrismons that can be shared every day. I have the Advent book I wrote that I could share every day. I could use the reading feature on Substack to read them to you. Or maybe I could just collect links once a week to resources on my website.
Maple Leaf Embossed Cookies
—-—> See the website page and recipe here.
I have never made embossed cookies before and have wanted to try them for a long time. More photos on the website too.
I bought a small maple leave embossed roller. I also bought two round embossed stamps for Winter cookies that I will play with on another recipe or two to share later.
But I needed a maple syrup cookie recipe that would work with embossing and I search for a while on the internet and then modified it a bit.
It tasted really good, but I felt the embossing was a little lost when the dough did rise. For a classic Autumn flavor, though, I felt the brown sugar was important. It did taste really good and went perfect with tea, but I felt like the brown sugar may have caused me to loose some of the leaf detail.
I woke up the next morning and there were five cookies left. Hubby left me five of three trays full. Sigh. He is the sweet monster and always has been! I tucked my five cookies in a baggie and put them in the refrigerator for next weekend. I want to pause and savor them with tea in the morning to create a little bit of joy for myself.
A few shares
I found Mr. Grouchy in the middle of the night last night when I could not sleep. His dancing makes me happy. He visits nursing homes and dances with those who have not danced in a long time. I used to visit nursing homes at times other than the holidays just because I feel as if folks need to be remembered more often than at caroling time. I have not done that in a long time. I used to take my children with me because I wanted to teach them to do good for others and also because old people just love children. After I became an empty nester, I started taking my dogs. Not all people love dogs like they do children, but it sure made some happy. I need to do that again. Mr. Grouchy also dances down Wal-mart isles. I would love to happenstance upon him and give a little step or two.
Here’s Miss Tizzy last weekend giving me that silent stare because dinner was an hour late because of the time change. Both girls have a way of gently sending me telepathic messages when they are hungry. They get in my face and look sad. They know more overt communications receive an overt unpleasant response, so they go for “the look” that works for them.
This year our church had one sermon series all year. First we read through the Book of Luke and second we read through Acts which was also written by Luke. Of course we have a few more weeks and chapters of Acts to finish.
The timing of Steve Thomason drawing Acts and then sharing it in videos at the same time our church was doing the sermon series is amazingly coincidental. I am watching his newest videos as a review of Acts and learning a lot. I love his maps. I always struggled with all the travels in Acts and understanding where things took place. Steve is a very good teacher and he also intentionally keeps to the facts and steers away from denominational difference. You can see his graphics on his website too. https://cartoonistbible.com/books/acts .
Winter Project
This is how many photos I have scanned in that I want to label digitally who is in the photo and any other details such as location, and on the right is how many I have finished. I have a long way to go and will need some cheerleaders to keep me going. I am sharing this today because I am going to make myself get started and work on it a little bit every day all Winter. If I put it in a post for people to read, I might just do it and get started.
I really wanted to share my new cookie recipe website page. So that is all for now.

I am in an a cappella quartet and we recently visited a couple of assisted living homes and sang for the residents. It’s hard to find a more appreciative audience!
That recipe sounds so yummy! I would add cardamom, lol. Shocker, I know.
