Sharing what I have learned as a new Apple Tree owner (Issue 62)
I filmed the progress of our Apple Trees for over a month. I finally called it “enough” to finish the video and create the website page, but I am going to continue learning and watching them for the rest of the year. I will continue to update the website page with more progress images and details.
READ THE WEBSITE PAGE for the details of my study and learning, and to see a lot of photos.
Oh, and I got the Solar Eclipse website page done, so you (an mostly me) can always find it again. I enjoyed studying the timeline and timestamps as I put the page together. I brought a whole new perspective for me, so maybe you will like that too.
The biggest thing I learned about apple trees this year is that the more advanced the bloom stage, the more at risk it is from frost damage. There is a chart on the website page and to go with it, I have photos showing the various stages. I did not know when I started taking the photos that it would turn into such a helpful thing, but it is surely going to be helpful next year.
Watch the YouTube video as I filmed a lot of snippets over a period of over a month, so you can learn with me as I observe the different stages of the apple tree.
Hubby was the one who JUST HAD TO HAVE these apple trees. He’s been wanting them for years. I just knew that I would be the one to study and learn how to take care of them. Even though I encouraged him to do so, I was the one that ended up doing it just as I thought I would. Sigh. I do not like the extra work, especially in paying attention to cover them when the temps drop, but I am enjoying learning about them.
I am now trying to learn how to keep the bugs away. Last year overnight the bugs just zapped the whole trees! They ate the leaves completely off overnight! I need to avoid that happening again. I have bought some products and I will have to share later whether I have success with them or not.
Can you believe Apple Trees are in the Rose Family? That was a surprise to me!
Be sure to laugh along with us in the video as we “tee-pee” our Apple Trees, more than once! Each time they look different.
We also bent over some branches and I share that in the video.
I have bought a book to learn about how to keep the Apple Trees shorter. The reason that has become important to me is because I figure we will need to cover them every year when the temps drop and the taller they are, the harder that will be to do. I have a lot of reading and learning to do yet.
I hope you enjoy our Apple Tree escapades in the video and the notes about frost temps and photos on the website page.
I have LOTS (as in an overwhelming amount) of plants blooming and study and videos to be done, so expect a lot to come soon.
We have been working A LOT with these drainage pipes. I am about to get my garden area restored as we are putting the stones back down over where the pipe runs. I will be SO happy for that restoration! Then hubby will begin digging along the patio and along the carport for the final section of this pipe. It will be a mess there too, but not as important of a space as my garden bed area and walkway. When we get this drainage pipe done that we have worked on for months, we have a second to get started on.
My to-do list is SO long, so I’m going to get off of here and get at it.
Til next time,
Cheryl
