Many folks call this a weed. I read it everytime someone shares about it in Facebook groups, but I have had mine for several years now and have never found it to be invasive. It may be that I am maintaining it in the garden beds rather than it being in the grass. I have had this plant for at least 20 years, so it a little bit of sunshine in my garden.
Watch the YouTube video which has all the information as well.
As always, I am learning so much about my plants! The biggest thing I learned about this plant is that the leaves mimic the Crocus leaves. I have always thought they were crocus and have left them to die back when in reality the leaves are taller and it blooms much later. The leaves have the same white strip down them as Crocus which is deceiving. Now that I identified it better, I found some in another place in a different garden bed where I did not want them and I was able to easily remove them.
The other fun thing that I discovered was the back side which has wide green stripes on it. I found that rather lovely! I have always missed it because you do not see it unless you tip the flower over.
I did manage to sew one curtain panel on Sunday. I need to get a photo of it to share with you. The drainage pipe #1 is nearly finished. My garden walkway has been restored. The water fountain is up and running and I am loving it every time I walk by it. We can also hear it from the patio. I bought a new electrical cord for it and we ran it under the ground to hide it so I could put the fountain in a new place. I do so love changing up my garden every year to be something new.
I planted my first seeds last night. They were the ones that were in the refrigerator as they require cold and I am afraid they were there much too long, but I need more hours in my days.
I am off to prepare the next flower to share.
Are you enjoying these posts as much as I am? I’d love to hear from you.
Have a happy day!
Cheryl
I love the striped underside of the flower! I want to remember to check other flowers and see if a surprise awaits.
I'm enjoying learning about the flowers in your garden. Keep on sharing!
